It's All About the Order of Operations!

What do doctors and 5th grade students have in common?

They both perform operations!

Mrs. Perry cracks herself up sometimes, she really does. Doctors perform operations on people, while 5th graders perform operations on NUMBERS!

There are four operations in math - addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. These links are all about solving expressions and equations using the order of operations!

Having trouble remembering the order? Try Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally!

Here's an at home tutorial! Review and practice to prepare for your test online! Note: Example #5 is bonus for fifth grade students!

Think your ready for the test? Take a practice test here! Be sure to have scrap paper ready to work out all problems.

Order of Operation Games/Online Practice

Mystery Picture Game

Mrs. Perry's Favorite! Do you like the game Connect 4? Well, here's an online version that helps you practice your order of operations! Get a partner and see who wins! Students should click on addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and parentheses to prepare for the test.

Basketball Math: Order of Operations Use the table of contents on the right hand section of the screen to click on "Order of Operations." At home, try the other skills practice activities on this site!

Help these poor fish climb up the stairs (don't ask me, I don't know WHY they're out of water!) in this order of operations game. Choose positive numbers with a reasonable range. This game is customizable! Don't make it too easy, or too hard! Have scrap paper ready!

Having trouble identifying what order to do things in? Try this online exploration that just asks for you to identify the order to solve expressions. Focus on mastering this first.
